Girls in Dubai - Day 1

My Mum, Dad and Brother have all recently moved abroad to Dubai, leaving me to chase my dreams of becoming a doctor at Medical School. So, as you can guess, I am always ready to jump at the chance to go over and visit them in the holidays. After months of revision and locking myself away in my room with a million and one books, I decided a trip over in the summer with the girls was definitely needed. Of course, they were more than happy to ablige! So we booked our tickets and headed off to sun, sea, sand and no alcohol whatsoever (drinking age in Dubai is 21 and the rules are preeetty strict.)

After not the nicest flight of our lives, we arrived at 6am and Mum and Harry were waiting at the airport for us, ready to take us to our villa! First thing on the agenda? POOL!...and sunbathing of course...

and throwing Nina in the air a bit, pretending to be synchronised swimmers.

peek-a-boo...

After a few hours of splashing about we decided it was time to head to the beach. Dubai has lots of amazing beaches, including many beach parks. One of my personal favourite is Jumeirah Beach Park, so off we toddled into the basking 40 degree heat!

there's just something about palm trees, don't you think? very 'holiday-ish'

The sea was incredibely salty, and after being fried by the sun all day we felt dangerously close to being turned into salt and vinegar crisps, so we jumped in a cab, covered from head to toe in sand, and headed back to the villa to freshen up before the night's activities.

Everything in Dubai is big. The skyscrapers, beaches, and not to forget the shopping. Dubai is massive on shopping. The Dubai Mall is the biggest in the world and is situated next to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, towering at 828m high!

Just beneath are steps where people can sit in awe, at the Burj itself and also at the worlds largest dancing fountain, 900ft long and water jets which shoot water 500ft into the air, dancing to different music, happening every half hour on the dot. Its pretty impressive the say the least!

The pictures dont do it enough justice, you have to see it to truly experience it. After being taken back by such extraordinary scenery (and also getting pretty sweaty from the still high 30's temperatures) we headed back inside the mall to the 'Lemon Bar' a seriously yummy ice cream shop, selling sugarfree ice cream, so you can feel slightly less guilty about indulging.

as you can tell we we're slightly excited about how scrummy they were!

Absolutely exhausted, we dragged our tired little feet to the taxi rank and piled in. Fair to say we slept pretty well that night, but all in all, not a bad start to our holiday!
